The Pro-Life Family

Work hard, train hard, play hard! That’s our motto and that’s why every member of our Pro-Life Family is so special, we are a finely tuned, well oiled, training machine that’s full of beans!

Alex Whelan is the proprietor of Pro-Life Fitness Centre and also Renfrewshire Sports Charities lovely landlord. Not only is he the hardest trainer in the gym, he is the most generous with his time and knowledge and has a true and deep passion for health & fitness which is shown in the fact that he is still competing at British level in Body Building competitions to this day! He is first in the gym every morning with a big smile on his face and a warm welcome for everyone who comes into the club and, even though he is technically retired, he spends nearly all of his free time, outwith supporting his beloved football team, doing what he enjoys most training our loyal members…he is a living legend, a gentleman and an inspiration

Gayle, our Chief Executive, has been competing and working within the Sports & Health & Fitness industry since the tender age of 13 and now has over 27 years experience under her belt. She first fell in love with Pro-Life when she became a member in 1997 and was the manager of another leisure club in Glasgow the RSAC at the time. Alex decided that he wanted Gayle to work at the club and so, with his unique form of gentle persuasion, this became reality on 5th May 1999, the exact same day as good friend Lindsey McIlkenny! Gayle became General Manager of Pro-Life in 2006 until 2014 when Alex kindly handed the club over to Renfrewshire Sports Charity and she took over the mantle of CEO a role she thoroughly enjoys experiencing with her amazing team of loyal friends and family

Membership & Operations

I first started working in Pro-Life Fitness Centre in December 2011. I had come from a sales background and since I started working in the gym, I have learned so much from working with Gayle and the rest of the team. I have learned so many new skills and can’t thank Gayle enough for all her support over the years and has been a pleasure to have such great loyal members. I treat the gym as a 2nd home and have met so many people that I now call close friends.

I have worked in Pro-Life fitness Centre from the 5th of May 1999-present. I have helped lots of members achieve their fitness goals and will continue to do so. I have recently been promoted to assistant gym manager and look forward to more successful years ahead. I have made many good loyal friends, who I have had the odd Malibu and pineapple with. # love life # love Pro-Life.

Having reached international level in both netball and endurance running, moving professionally into the health and fitness industry was a natural progression for me.  It has enabled me to pass on my knowledge and experience to others to help them to achieve their own personal goals.  It’s what I know and what I love.  Sport, health and fitness is very much at the heart of all I do.  I understand how and what it takes to train but more importantly I know exactly how it feels.
