ALEX WHELAN

Alex is the owner of Pro-Life Fitness Centre and also the landlord to Renfrewshire Sports Charity. A world-class bodybuilder that competed until recently he now also trains other aspiring bodybuilders to achieve their potential too. The most experienced trainer in the gym, Alex is very generous with his time and knowledge and has a true and deep passion for all things health and fitness. He is first in the gym every morning and now donates a lot of his spare time to helping young up and coming athletes and sports teams in the Renfrewshire area.

MEMBERSHIP MANAGER
I first started working at Pro-Life in December 2011. I had come from a sales background so Pro-Life was a natural progression for me, and as someone who loves to train it was the ideal combination selling something I feel passionate about. The best thing about working in Pro Life is the people. Over the years I’ve met a great group of people and have learned a lot and now working to raise money for such worthwhile local charities makes it even more rewarding.

OPERATIONS MANAGER
I have worked in Pro-Life since 1999. In this time I have helped hundreds of members achieve their fitness goals and I get a real satisfaction from this. Looking after the operations of the gym my days are always bust and varied and I never do the same things 2 days in a row! The best thing about Pro-Life is that as a stand-alone gym with a real family atmosphere and great staff and members. I can’t imagine working anywhere else.

PERSONAL TRAINER

Having participated in sport and fitness since I was 16 years old, I have become passionate and dedicated to enhancing my knowledge of Health exercise and fitness along with transforming my body to become more efficient and athletic overall. I incorporate all of these factors when creating bespoke programmes to help my clients achieve their personal goals. All Personal Training clients will be advised on nutritional habits, as to be healthy we need to understand what is good for our body. We need to adjust our habits as our body and life changes “like a business, a successful body needs good management to ensure happiness and productivity, food is every bit as important than the training.

COLIN MURPHY

OPERATIONS
I’ve been working for both Pro-Life and Pro 5s for the past 12 years and as well as being the early morning face of the gym, I specialise in maintenance and daily operations. I am also fully qualified in circuit and resistance training, football coaching, Swedish massage and sports injury massage.  In my spare time I am also a keen cyclist and can be frequently seen out enjoying the great outdoors.

I have a BSc Degree in Sports Coaching and I’ve worked with Pro-Life since 2015. My experience at Pro-Life has benefited me in many ways within the fitness industry and working here constantly provides me with opportunities that will help me further my career.    I am also a keen powerlifter and a member of Paisley Barbell Club and I currently holds ALL Scottish records for squat, bench and deadlift (47.5kg category) and won the overall female lifter category in the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association Championships in 2017

Having reached international level in both netball and endurance running, moving professionally into the health and fitness industry was a natural progression for me.  It has enabled me to pass on my knowledge and experience to others to help them to achieve their own personal goals.  It’s what I know and what I love.  Sport, health and fitness is very much at the heart of all I do.  I understand how and what it takes to train but more importantly I know exactly how it feels.

I started training when I was age 8 in a swimming club and competed in many swimming events , including swimming for my school. I then moved onto free weights
Then took an interest in Muay Thai Boxing. I eventually went back to free weights and Bodybuilding. Cleaning up my diet . In I 2015 I was 2nd in Scotland over 40s Natural Bodybuilder. Then in 2016 Scottish Champion over 40s Natural Bodybuilder and placing 2nd in Britain with an invite to the World Finals in Miami.
My goals for the future is to always better myself.

Elaine is a personal trainer here at Pro-Life Fitness Centre. She has been in the industry since she was 16 as a junior tennis coach and has been teaching classes and personal training for the last 6 years. Before becoming a personal trainer she spent 5 years studying for a masters in psychology at the University of Glasgow.  currently teaching bootcamp, spin and weight lifting based classes.

I’ve worked at Pro-Life for about 4 years and 8 years at David Lloyds as a level 3 personal trainer. I’m a fitness instructor teaching bootcamp, bodypump and spin, I’m also kettle bell and TRX qualified. I have a passion for all things fitness related and like to compete in triathlon and cycling races. So if you need any help losing weight, gaining muscle or general well being get in touch and I’m sure we  can achieve great things together.

I have taught classes at Pro-Life for over 15 years and I have a genuine love and passion for all things fitness. I train hard in the club and have competed to British level in female bodybuilding over the last few years.

I’ve been tempted back to teach my old school circuits over the last few years and it seems to have been a great success.   Taking a no-nonsense approach to circuit training my class is packed with exercises to tone muscles you didn’t even know existed and we do it all 2 days a week – Tuesdays and Fridays.

As well as working at Pro Life as Personal Trainer I also teach a variety of classes on the timetable including Ringside, TRX and the very popular Shredder.   I also cover a wide variety of circuit classes and bootcamp as well.   As someone who loves their fitness, the classes give me a great opportunity to interact with a wide variety of members within the club and I see the classes as another great training tool for my clients to master.

With my origins in dance, I am a highly motivated and very enthusiastic instructor and have been teaching at Pro-Life for 8 years now. I’m qualified in spin, grit, bodypump, bodycombat and loads more and I’m always adding to my certifications to keep current in the industry. Hazel is currently studying for her Level 3 Personal Trainer Qualification.

I have been a member of Pro-Life for 25 years and a qualified instructor for 17 years teaching and covering a wide variety of classes over this time. I am also a Scottish Athletics and YMCA running coach and for the last six years I also been running her own business out of Pro-Life – good2run running sportswear shop.

I’ve worked at Pro-Life for 24 years teaching a variety of classes over this period. Currently on my 20th year teaching Pro-Life’s early morning advanced spin classes at 6.30am on Tuesdays and Fridays as well as Bootcamp which I love doing on the pitches attached to the gym.   I am a real fitness enthusiast and take part in and cover a range of classes in Pro-Life.   I also work as a Tutor and Assessor for YMCAfit teaching up and coming fitness instructors. Passions include cross training and running (particularly 10Ks) and recreational cycling.

Having started out as a scientist, I’ve been teaching at Pro-Life for nearly 12 years and in that time I got engaged, married and brought 3 children into the world (almost without missing a beat). I teach a variety of different programs – bodycombat, bodypump, bodybalance and piloxing to name just a few. I am also a fully qualified gym instructor.

I started yoga late in life, which proves you don’t have to be young and flexible to achieve your goals.  After moving to Singapore I started my yoga journey and started a 500 hr teacher training course then went on to do my Yin Yoga and pre-natal teacher training too.  I have attended workshops with very well known teachers such as Paul Grilley, Simon Borg, Oliver, Kino McGregor & Simon Park. Yoga is not a competitive sport and people of all abilities are welcome to come along and give it a try.

As well as my Personal Training I look forward to my weekly Express Circuits class which is proving very popular on the Pro Life timetable.   I’ve been involved in teaching fitness at Pro-Life in various capacities over the years starting out as a young gym instructor and moving on to running my own self employed Personal Training Business.   I look forward to the Friday might class where I get to teach great people in a group exercise environment.

‘I have been a part of the Pro-Life Team since 2002 as a play leader within the creche. In 2005 I enrolled at a local college to further my knowledge and skills of working with children and became a fully qualified child care professional in 2007. With the exception of a one year break for a full time post I have been with Pro-Life the entire time and absolutely love my job and all of the children, members and team of staff I work with.’

Our members gets access to over 35 classes per week or if you wish to pay as you play we have 30, 45 & 60 minute sessions for only £3.00, £4.50 & £6.00!
